The Lewin Group Center for Comparative Effectiveness Research manages, conducts, interprets and supports the use of comparative effectiveness research to make informed decisions regarding patient outcomes, health care policy and the optimal use of health care resources.
The Lewin Group is widely recognized for its expertise in the U.S. health care system, its record in health technology assessment and evidence-based medicine; health care policy and other issues, and its independence and objectivity. In the Lewin Center, we are combining these strengths with the unique capabilities of our sister company, i3, in clinical trials and study design, health economics and outcomes research; and through Ingenix, access to one of the world’s largest and most robust patient data sets including de-identified, integrated diagnosis, medical, and pharmacy claims data for millions of individuals.
What is Comparative Effectiveness Research?
Comparative effectiveness research (CER) is the comparison of two or more health care interventions. Comparative effectiveness research makes direct, “head-to-head” comparisons where possible between some particular technology or technologies and an established standard of care or other realistic comparator. CER examines how well a health care treatment or other type of intervention works under real world conditions.
The Lewin Center for CER will provide independent, data-driven, evidence-based policy recommendations regarding approaches for implementing CER and its impact. We will work with government, private sector and academic institutions to establish CER programs, monitor and ensure research is being conducted appropriately, communicate CER findings and provide access to data sets required for sound CER programs.
The Lewin Group’s Center for Comparative Effectiveness Research will offer:
• Provision of data sets and registries
• Data analysis, including of linked data sets and electronic health records
• Tools for analysis of longitudinal health outcomes for treatment effectiveness
• Services to conduct and manage Institutional Review Board approved comparative trials
• CER technical assistance, CER knowledge transfer and consulting on CER methods and policies
