Multiple Work Supports and Services May Help Low-Wage Workers Climb the Economic Ladder

Written for the Research Forum, an initiative of the National Center for Children in Poverty (NCCP) at the Mailman School of Public Health of Columbia University, this article provides a short introduction to the literature on employment retention and advancement strategies and describes a group of interventions being tested in a national evaluation. The article is authored by Mike Fishman, who is one of the evaluators of the current demonstrations of employment retention and advancement services. He sees good news emanating from the demonstration sites, but it is tempered with challenges for the future.
