John Selig, MPA
Senior Vice President, State Growth
In 2016, John Selig joined The Lewin Group as a senior vice president. In this role, he leads state business development efforts, including developing new client relationships, attaining new business and broadening the firm’s work and support of U.S. state governments. Selig also leads Lewin’s state operations work with Optum®, leveraging the strengths of both organizations to address client needs.
From 2005 to 2016, Selig served under three governors as the director of the Arkansas Department of Human Services. During his tenure he led the design and implementation of Arkansas’ nationally recognized “Private Option” approach to Medicaid expansion, and a multi-payer transformation of the state’s health care system from fee-for-service to episode-based payments and patient-centered medical homes. He also helped introduce automated and integrated operations across the department and an overhaul of the child welfare and juvenile justice systems.
Selig’s previous positions include serving as Arkansas’ director of Behavioral Health and Director of In-Home Health Services. Prior to joining state government, he was on the staff of U.S. Senator David Pryor and served two years in the Peace Corps as a teacher in West Africa.
Selig is a graduate of Stanford University and has a master’s degree in public administration from Princeton University.
